Ok, so I have been scouring the net for ideas, I even got a great, helpful book called Yum-Yum-Bento Box that has so lots of recipes and cute designs for bentos. Like using quail eggs for little chicks!
I used meatballs and broccoli as the base. Then green beans, baby corn, kame stars (imitation crab meat), the flower is a small hot dog. The sun is cheese with nori face and the chick had cheese beak, nori eyes and feet, ham hair and dots of katsup to make the rosy cheeks. The second box has wakame (seaweed) salad, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), broccoli and some small wafer cookies.
My husband's bento is very similar, just a different design, and different cookies! Hopefully soon I'll start adding some step by steps, but for now, just the end products.
